LEED EXPERIENCE
AtlantiCare Health Systems- Oncology Center
LEED CERTIFICATION: GOLD
LOCATION: Egg Harbor Township-New Jersey
OWNER: AtlantiCare Health Systems
ARCHITECT: Ewing Cole
Project Scope:
New construction of a 40,000 square foot LEED Certified state of the art Oncology Center for AtlantiCare Health Systems located on the Egg Harbor Township Campus. This was the first LEED Certified building constructed for the Health System and the goal was to achieve a Silver LEED Certification. This Cancer Center features 12 infusion bays for chemotherapy, as well as a radiation treatment that uses linear accelerator treatment which includes external-beam radiation.
Major LEED features:
- High-Energy HVAC system that is monitored and adjusted remotely from the main campus of AtlantiCare in Atlantic City, NJ.
- 30% of the Exterior skin will be glass to maximize the natural sunlight exposure
- Infusion Bay patients will overlook an exterior roof-top garden for maximum patient comfort
- Interior high-end finishes using natural colors for a soft treatment environment
The Challenges:
At the start of this project there was no intention of achieving LEED certification, however the owner requested that the team look into making this a LEED certified project. The constant “real-time” medical technology changes outdated 3 major pieces of medical equipment at the start of construction.
The Solution:
P. Agnes was able to work as an intricate team with the Owner, Architect, Engineers to develop an energy efficient model and review LEED requirements to seek a LEED certified project. After working together, the team achieved enough points to seek a LEED Gold Certification. P. Agnes was also able work within the Owner’s budget to achieve the Gold Certification.
P. Agnes was also able to work together with the Owner, Architect, Engineers, Physicists, and equipment vendors to overcome challenges with the equipment changes. These challenges included making changes to the Radiation protection within the rooms that the equipment is utilized, reviewing structural requirements for the new equipment, reviewing new cooling requirements, and new electrical requirements.
P. Agnes was able to work through these obstacles with no additional time required beyond the original completion date.

1500 Spring Garden Street- Granary Office Space
LEED CERTIFICATION: SILVER
LOCATION: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
OWNER: The Granary
ARCHITECT: The Granary
Project Scope:
Renovation of 48,000 square feet of office space, including the building’s shell and core work, that consisted of a complete overhaul of mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems, and interior space systems. The design called for full glass walls, unique architectural features, special conference rooms, furniture system, and IT services. This new space now houses both the Architectural & Interior Design Departments of The Granary, as well as the Project Management Division.
The Challenges:
A tight timetable was established from the outset: the project had to be completed within 15 weeks to achieve a move-in date of December 21, 2007, and the new office space had to be fully operational by the morning of December 26th. To meet the tight schedule, the P. Agnes team reworked the Preconstruction phase of Value Management in order to accelerate the project’s start time.
Additionally, this project was designed to achieve LEED Certification, and P. Agnes invested a tremendous effort in the coordination process required to meet this goal.
The Solution:
P. Agnes was able to overcome the challenge and meet the client’s goals on this project with a total team effort, which included: intense expediting and coordination of the work, working closely with the architect for speedy clarification of project details, and ensuring critical trades people could work several overtime shifts to meet the tight time schedule.
