Project Scope: As a result of a competitive bid at the end of 2008 and beginning of 2009, our Team was selected to renovate an existing concrete structure that served as a parking garage in the past but had been vacant for five years. The design and goal was to renovate the structure so that it could be used as a 224 spot automatic parking garage. Without the square footage to dedicate to access ramps the only type of parking that would work would be a fully automated system. Overall, automatic parking garages are becoming more popular and this is the first automatic garage open to the public in Philadelphia. All of the challenges and design requirements were overcome by working together with the owner and equipment representative and in the end the Juniper Street Parking Garage was finished on schedule for the grand opening and within budget and is a successful automatic parking garage.
